Written Reflection
The theme of my photo series is the importance of everyday life. The pictures of the sunset, trees, and water show the simply things in life that we should appreciate. The picture of raising the flag shows patriotism and the importance of it in the community and at homes. The picture of the girl in the library gives off a simple, calm feeling.
My favorite image of this series is the last picture of the wooden fence, going off into the water. In order to produce this photo, I first made a copy of the layer, then I turned down the saturation of the photo. After that, I used the brush tool selected to white at a low opacity and painted the areas where I thought it was too dark, like areas on the fence and water. I then used the smudge tool to make the trees in the background blurry. After that, I overlaid an image of dirt and used the magic wand tool to take away the background of the picture of dirt so only the dirt would be visible. Then I erased away what I didn’t want, making the shape of the sun.
Last, I overlaid an image of paint and used the magic wand tool to take away the background of the picture of paint so only the paint would be seen then I inverted it so the black paint would be white. I erased away what I didn’t want, and I played with the opacity so some spots of paint are more white than others.
I picked this photo as my favorite because I love the colors and the angle the photo was taken at. The fence creates a leading line into the water and trees in the background. The colors in this photo balance out. The dark colors in the foreground balance out the light colors in the midground which then balances out with the dark colors in the background. The manipulations to this photo makes it a good final photo because it amplifies the colors, making it appear an epic image of an everyday object.
